School of Medicine - Clinical MedicineCardiovascular Surgery

The Kanazawa Medical University Cardiovascular Center was established on April 1, 2016, as a new clinical department at Kanazawa Medical University Hospital, and on September 1, 2016, the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery started with a new Chair, Professor Sakamoto. The department is now subdivided into three sections: Adult Cardiovascular Surgery, Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery and Vascular Surgery. So that our hospital can better serve the community, we aim to (1) provide advanced medical treatment, (2) provide treatments for acute and subacute patients, (3) sustain quality health care based on the national Health Policy (maintaining nursing standard), (4) provide medicine meeting the community needs, (5) establish community-based medicine through the Medicine Cooperation System, (6) construct and provide team-based medicine, (7) construct and enhance medical functions with distinctive features (provision of multidisciplinary medicine) and treat patients 24 hours/365 days.
In education, together with attending doctors, we actively provide clinical-based practical education, education to motivate students, and education to raise students to feel dedication to their own school.
In research, our main area of interest is treatment of chronic heart failure. In Japan, heart transplant surgery is still not common due to reasons such as lack of donors, so treatment such as myocardial regeneration therapy needs to be considered. In cooperation with the Regenerative medicine Center, we are launching a new study for the application of autologous adipose-derived regenerative medicine to myocardial regeneration therapy.
As a Clinical Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, we will continue to enhance clinical practice, education, and research.
